The Week Ahead

If you are reading this from just about anywhere in the northeast, you know that my plans for an outdoor table from which to observe Oak Bluffs’ busy streets last week were literally washed out. No worries, I shifted gears and baked a pumpkin pie instead…but, as this weekend approaches, the weather is once again shaping up to be sunny and warm, just in time for
Morning Glory Farm's Annual Pumpkin Festival, being celebrated this Saturday. Eagerly anticipated at my house, we look forward to checking out this year's crop of beautiful orange globes while watching successive generations of young ones discovering the joys of autumn. Yummy treats from the farm kitchen, a hay bale maze, jack-o-lantern carving and pumpkin toss add to the homespun fun.

More to celebrate: come Sunday the Community Solar Greenhouse will be marking its Silver Anniversary with music, craft displays, antiques & collectibles and refreshments. As can be inferred from the fact that this is a ‘silver’ occasion, COMSOG has been around from the days when ‘green’ was merely a color and in the intervening years has done much to preserve and spread information about treating mother nature gently. Come out and honor this great organization.
Walking the Walk
Another excuse for getting outside on Sunday is the Miles of Memories Walk raising money for Alzheimer services. Beginning at Oak Bluffs’ Little Bridge, the walk will continue to Big Bridge. Participation of any kayakers who may want to join us in the waters alongside the walk route will also be welcomed.
Trustees Last Call
More on the outdoors: this is the week when the Trustees of Reservations will wrap up of many of the great programs offered over the summer which gave all of us the opportunity to explore the beautiful nooks and crannies of the Island. Check in with our calendar of events to make sure you don’t miss your last chance for Quest, Kayak and other outdoor adventures.
