This year, October 17 -19, the Martha's Vineyard Food and Wine Festival will host chefs, vintners and culinary experts from on Island and off, each one eager to share their knowledge of food, the excitement of emerging trends as well as their own discoveries and creations. Martha's Vineyard Food & Wine FestivalFRIDAY, OCTOBER 17
5 - 7 pm - Small Plates from the Grill Grates, MV Museum, School St. Edgartown
BBQ Masters Andy Husbands, chef/owner of Tremont 647 and Sister Sorel in Boston, and Dante de Magistris, chef/owner of dante in Cambridge and the soon-to-open Il Casale in Belmont, will step behind the grill and prepare island-raised meats, seafood, and produce. To accompany the tasting, wine historian Nina Wemyss and Margrit Biever Mondavi pour a selection of vintages and share stories from the world of wine-making. Silent auction of rare wines, jazz  by Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish. Proceeds benefit  MV Museum. $100

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18

1 - 4 pm - Grand Tasting, MV Museum, School St., Edg.
The Martha’s Vineyard Museum will host the Grand Tasting. Distinguished island chefs, including Kevin Crowell of Detente, Christian Thornton of Atria, and Anthony Saccoccia of The Grill on Main demonstrate dishes prepared with local, in-season produce, meats, and seafood, highlighting each chef’s distinctive style. Noted vintners will pour wines for guests including Rombauer Vineyards, Duckhorn Wine Company, Liberty School Wine, and C. Donatiello Winery. Acclaimed cookbook authors, including Cathy Walthers, will conduct a book signing. $100

Watertown's Russo’s Market resident cheese expert, Mark Trumble, will guide tasters on a sampling of hand-crafted cheeses and wines from around the world. $60

10 - 11 am - Beer & Cheese Pairings, David Ryans, North Water St., Edg.
Prefer beer over wine? Join Offshore Ale and Shy Brothers Farm  for pairings of Offshore lagers with the Farm's artisanal cheeses. The Offshore Ale House is an Island tradition, and Shy Brothers Farm is a third-generation staple in Westport, Mass.  $60

11:30 am - 12:30 pm - Chocolate & Dessert Wines, The Christina Gallery North Water St., Edg.
This year Lee Napoli, former pastry chef at Boston's Icarus and Grill 23, opened Chocolee Chocolates in Boston’s South End. Her handcrafted chocolates won her a Best of Boston Award from Boston Magazine. Lee will team up with Jonathan Alsop, seasoned wine writer and owner of the Boston Wine School, to discuss the art of dessert wine and chocolate pairings. Jonathan is the author of a nationally syndicated wine column, In Vino Veritas. $60

Children can spend the afternoon on the farm participating in fun, educational activities that revolve around agricultural life and the awareness of all living things.  $30

1 - 2 pm - Olive Oil & Bread, Atlantic Restaurant on the Edgartown Harbor
Joanne Chang, the award winning pastry chef and owner of Flour Bakery in Boston, slices up loaves of her crusty, warm bread while Emmanuel Daskalakis of Aralia shares his secrets about producing the world’s finest olive oil. $40

5:30 - 6:30 pm - Bringing Back Cocktail Hour!,  Kelley House, Edg. Lauren Clark of DrinkBoston will lead a discussion on the lost art of making and enjoying classic cocktails. $50

7 - 10 pm - Private Home Dinner
Executive Chef Peter Davis of Henrietta’s Table in Cambridge prepares an Island-grown masterpiece while wine historian, Nina Weymss pairs each course with a selected wine. With literary anecdotes and illustrations, Nina will explain each wine’s historical relationship with art and its cultural significance. Margarit Mondavi of the Mondavi Winery will discuss her interest in uniting wine with the arts and the winery’s dedication to cultural programs.  $500

7 - 10 pm - Private Home Dinner - Sustainable Seafood
Jeremy Sewall, Chef/Co-Owner of Lineage in Brookline, Mass., demonstrates the process of preparing sustainable fish and shellfish. Heather Tausig, coordinator of the New England Aquarium's Celebrate Seafood Dinner Series, will lead a discussion on the importance of shopping for and eating sustainable seafood and Dr. Aaron Bernstein, from Harvard Medical School's Healthy and Sustainable Food Program, will engage guests on how biodiversity affects human health.  $500

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19

9 am- 5 pm - Corn Maze for families to explore together at theThe FARM Institute, 14 Aero Ave, Katama. Tickets available at The Farm Institute 508-627-7007. Children under 13 $5.00, Ages 14 & up $10.00  

10 -11 am - Farmers' Market and Brunch at the MV Museum, School St., Edg.
Island farmers offer their fall harvest for sale and prepared brunch foods will be available a la carte. The MV Museum will offer a complimentary children's crafts workshop and historic games outdoors.   Free admission.
